In an interview with Patience Onyedeke, a former student
and current teacher at the school, she shared her struggles: ‘I have four
children, but I am unable to pay their school fees. Here at the school, we need
security personnel, more staff like us, and better pay. We don’t have adequate
food, water, or electricity. We are honestly suffering, hoping for a miracle
that would put a smile on our faces. I ask the government, fellow citizens, and
philanthropists to please come to our aid.’
Mary Chika, the school matron, also expressed her
concerns: ‘I want the children here to be well taken care of. As a matron, I am
only paid 15,000 naira. I want the government to pay me appropriately. We are
suffering and need urgent help. Things are costly in the market, and my salary
is not enough. I need help.’
Several students, though unable to speak, expressed their
needs through sign language. Their interpreted messages highlighted the need
for food, security, care, and inclusion in society. They feel rejected and are
in dire need of assistance.
