Opinion Poll: In your view, who would make a better President of the United States based on leadership qualities, policies, and vision for the country?

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

As Americans prepare for the 2024 presidential election, they face two very different visions for the country’s future, represented by Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Both candidates have laid out clear plans on major issues such as immigration, the economy, and social values. For context, Donald Trump is a member of the Republican Party and served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Kamala Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves as Vice President under President Joe Biden.

Trump’s approach includes tougher immigration policies, such as reviving the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy and enforcing stricter travel restrictions to enhance security. He emphasises tax cuts, setting limits on credit card interest rates, and encouraging companies to bring jobs back to the U.S. Additionally, he places a strong emphasis on supporting traditional values and religious freedoms.

On the other hand, Harris proposes a more inclusive agenda. She supports offering a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, especially those who arrived as children, and prioritizes civil rights protections, particularly for LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health. Her economic focus is on reducing income inequality, expanding healthcare, and improving access to education. With her background in criminal justice reform, she aims to build a society centered on community support and fairness.

As Election Day approaches, many are eager to know who will become the next President of the United States. Some believe that Donald Trump is the best candidate to lead America and plan to vote for him, while others support Kamala Harris, believing that what America needs right now is a fresh face, a new agenda, and calmness instead of chaos.

Ultimately, the candidate capable of leading effectively should be chosen. With the agendas of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris now in the open, voters must choose wisely to avoid future regret. Sometimes, what the world needs is not just calmness but a leader with a disciplined mind, someone brave enough to guide the people they govern. If you believe either candidate can bring America to greater heights, then close your eyes and cast your vote for the one your heart tells you to support, the one you believe will best lead the nation forward. This election is not merely a choice between a fresh face and an established one; it’s about selecting the leader who can guide the nation to the Promised Land.

Here are some diverse perspectives from people across the globe on who they believe is best suited to lead the United States.

Jeff Barcelona from the Philippines

The election day is fast approaching, and the world is watching to see who will become the 47th U.S. President. The big question is who is suited to be the next U.S. President between the Democratic and Republican candidates. This upcoming election is not about color, gender, or race, but about who is equipped to lead in terms of the U.S. economy, security, welfare, and local and national policies. As a foreign observer, I have read some articles and watched interviews with former U.S. President Trump and U.S. Vice President Harris regarding their platforms that will benefit American citizens and the rest of the world.

I believe former U.S. President Trump is the best choice for this election based on his agenda, experience, and track record. While he may have made unpopular decisions in the past, I believe that considering the current situation in the United States, the country was in a better state than it is today. Vice President Harris is already part of this administration, and she was tasked with addressing the root causes of increased migration from Latin America to the U.S. southern border, promoting national legislation to protect voting rights, and preserving women’s access to abortion. She has the means and resources to resolve those issues but has failed to do so.

Between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, I believe Donald Trump’s leadership qualities, policies, and vision for the United States make him the stronger candidate. Trump has consistently demonstrated a direct and decisive leadership style, often making bold decisions that prioritise the U.S. economy and national security. His business acumen helped create policies aimed at deregulation and tax cuts that supported business growth and job creation during his presidency. This, combined with his tough stance on immigration and strong focus on national security, showcases his vision of a more self-sufficient and prosperous America.

Moreover, Trump’s vision for the U.S. centers on restoring America’s global economic dominance, securing borders, and putting ‘America First.’ His foreign policy initiatives, such as renegotiating trade deals and fostering peace agreements in the Middle East, demonstrate his commitment to securing U.S. interests on the world stage. While his style may be unconventional, Trump has always emphasised economic growth, national strength, and policies that promote American jobs and industry, which is why I stand in favor of his leadership over Kamala Harris.

Well, in my opinion, I have always seen Trump as a political juggernaut, one who is fearless and confronts challenges with every means possible, regardless of the circumstances. Judging by his last presidential term, the people have had their opinions to make better decisions. On the other hand, Kamala is new to the system, which means she is coming in with fresh ideas, such as cutting down the tax rate and meeting the needs of the middle class, who have been struggling due to tax and inflation. She has already gained traction in that regard.

I like Trump simply because of his relentless charisma and fearless approach to dealing with issues, especially when handling national matters. While Kamala may have a vision for the people and is not just playing political games, Trump is a game changer himself.

In my opinion, I believe Donald Trump will win the election. I fully support Trump, and my reason is that he's very courageous and doesn't fear anyone; he rules without fear or favor.

Well, the issues surrounding the American election do not warrant doubt when it comes to Trump and Harris. Firstly, assuming the American Electoral Commission is free from cunning acts and tribalism, Trump is already ahead without influence from corrupt countries like Nigeria, which might support Harris against Biafra’s actualisation. I suspect she may lean towards Muslim interests.

Secondly, once a teacher, always a teacher; a soldier is always a soldier. Therefore, if one is good at heart, he or she remains so. Trump, whom I have heard a little about, tried during his first term. Based on the analysis of his achievements, he shouldn't have been re-elected; instead, he received a vote of confidence to continue due to his repeated lamentations about Biafra issues. He was robbed of his election results, and I think this time around, he needs to be careful that the past does not repeat itself.

Influentially, Trump has been a president who did not complete his term, so he should be allowed to finish it according to the American Constitution. Trump has the charisma and power to manipulate and affect the affairs of the country, elevating it to unimaginable heights. To whom the cap fits should be allowed to wear it; Trump has what it takes to lead the country.

Regarding economic initiatives and management, while it’s true that women often possess wisdom and skills in various areas, including household management, this public issue requires broad wisdom and leadership capabilities. Trump has qualities that may help him excel in this area. This discussion isn’t about gender; it’s about sincerity and competence in addressing economic challenges.

In terms of tourism, Trump must have made great strides during his first term; an old dancer never forgets how to dance. Trump possesses the charisma and vigor to propel the country positively. Consider the comparison between Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and their successors and how they have handled the legacies left behind. What have they provided for their successors? Trump remains the best candidate among the two, with no challenges.

Sujoy Pal from India

Trump has a good friendship with our Prime Minister, Modiji. I am Sujoy from West Bengal, India. I am a teacher at a higher secondary school under the government of West Bengal. I support Donald Trump in the U.S. election because he has a good relationship not only with our Prime Minister but also with many Indians. He wants what is good for our country.

Harris and Trump

In the end, the choice is about which candidate’s vision best matches what Americans want for the country’s future. Both Trump and Harris offer different paths, based on their own ideas and priorities. By voting, Americans are deciding the country’s direction for years ahead. Let this election show the importance of making thoughtful choices, staying united, and focusing on what’s best for everyone. May the leader who is chosen bring progress, safety, and prosperity to all Americans.
