Obasanjo, Akpabio, Service Chiefs Attend Nigeria’s 64th Independence Thanksgiving Service

The celebration of Nigeria's 64th Independence Anniversary commenced on Sunday with an inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja. The event was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Service Chiefs. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, led the government’s delegation.

In his address, SGF Akume expressed optimism about Nigeria's future under President Bola Tinubu, envisioning the country as one that will flourish and prosper both in Africa and globally. He reaffirmed his belief that despite the challenges, there is hope for the nation's success and progress.

Akume’s message echoed that of Most Rev. Michael Akinwale, the Archbishop of Abuja in the Methodist Church of Nigeria, who delivered a sermon filled with hope for Nigeria’s future. Akinwale shared his vision, stating, "I have a dream that Nigeria will be great again. I have a dream that Nigeria will rise again and become a leader in industrialisation in Africa."

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also addressed the congregation, urging Nigerians to remain patient and hopeful. He acknowledged the difficulties the nation faces but assured that better days lie ahead. "Our journey to become a prosperous nation is just beginning," Akpabio said, encouraging Nigerians to maintain their faith and belief in the country's future.

In a similar vein, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, during a special service at the Government House Chapel, called for national unity and inclusive economic development. Mbah described Nigeria's 64th anniversary as a testament to the resilience of its people and stressed the importance of supporting the country's leaders to achieve economic growth.

During the service, Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, Diocesan Secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, urged political leaders and those in leadership positions to work for the common good of all Nigerians, highlighting the need for dedicated service to the nation.

As Nigeria marks this milestone, the call for unity, patience, and collective effort towards national development remains at the forefront of the celebration.
