Opinion Poll: In your view, who would make a better President of the United States based on leadership qualities, policies, and vision for the country?

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

As Americans prepare for the 2024 presidential election, they face two very different visions for the country’s future, represented by Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Both candidates have laid out clear plans on major issues such as immigration, the economy, and social values. For context, Donald Trump is a member of the Republican Party and served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Kamala Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves as Vice President under President Joe Biden.

Trump’s approach includes tougher immigration policies, such as reviving the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy and enforcing stricter travel restrictions to enhance security. He emphasises tax cuts, setting limits on credit card interest rates, and encouraging companies to bring jobs back to the U.S. Additionally, he places a strong emphasis on supporting traditional values and religious freedoms.

On the other hand, Harris proposes a more inclusive agenda. She supports offering a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, especially those who arrived as children, and prioritizes civil rights protections, particularly for LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health. Her economic focus is on reducing income inequality, expanding healthcare, and improving access to education. With her background in criminal justice reform, she aims to build a society centered on community support and fairness.

As Election Day approaches, many are eager to know who will become the next President of the United States. Some believe that Donald Trump is the best candidate to lead America and plan to vote for him, while others support Kamala Harris, believing that what America needs right now is a fresh face, a new agenda, and calmness instead of chaos.

Ultimately, the candidate capable of leading effectively should be chosen. With the agendas of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris now in the open, voters must choose wisely to avoid future regret. Sometimes, what the world needs is not just calmness but a leader with a disciplined mind, someone brave enough to guide the people they govern. If you believe either candidate can bring America to greater heights, then close your eyes and cast your vote for the one your heart tells you to support, the one you believe will best lead the nation forward. This election is not merely a choice between a fresh face and an established one; it’s about selecting the leader who can guide the nation to the Promised Land.

Here are some diverse perspectives from people across the globe on who they believe is best suited to lead the United States.

Jeff Barcelona from the Philippines

The election day is fast approaching, and the world is watching to see who will become the 47th U.S. President. The big question is who is suited to be the next U.S. President between the Democratic and Republican candidates. This upcoming election is not about color, gender, or race, but about who is equipped to lead in terms of the U.S. economy, security, welfare, and local and national policies. As a foreign observer, I have read some articles and watched interviews with former U.S. President Trump and U.S. Vice President Harris regarding their platforms that will benefit American citizens and the rest of the world.

I believe former U.S. President Trump is the best choice for this election based on his agenda, experience, and track record. While he may have made unpopular decisions in the past, I believe that considering the current situation in the United States, the country was in a better state than it is today. Vice President Harris is already part of this administration, and she was tasked with addressing the root causes of increased migration from Latin America to the U.S. southern border, promoting national legislation to protect voting rights, and preserving women’s access to abortion. She has the means and resources to resolve those issues but has failed to do so.

Beauty Benedict from Nigeria

Between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, I believe Donald Trump’s leadership qualities, policies, and vision for the United States make him the stronger candidate. Trump has consistently demonstrated a direct and decisive leadership style, often making bold decisions that prioritise the U.S. economy and national security. His business acumen helped create policies aimed at deregulation and tax cuts that supported business growth and job creation during his presidency. This, combined with his tough stance on immigration and strong focus on national security, showcases his vision of a more self-sufficient and prosperous America.

Moreover, Trump’s vision for the U.S. centers on restoring America’s global economic dominance, securing borders, and putting ‘America First.’ His foreign policy initiatives, such as renegotiating trade deals and fostering peace agreements in the Middle East, demonstrate his commitment to securing U.S. interests on the world stage. While his style may be unconventional, Trump has always emphasised economic growth, national strength, and policies that promote American jobs and industry, which is why I stand in favor of his leadership over Kamala Harris.

Engr. Ekeopara Kizito O. from Nigeria

Well, in my opinion, I have always seen Trump as a political juggernaut, one who is fearless and confronts challenges with every means possible, regardless of the circumstances. Judging by his last presidential term, the people have had their opinions to make better decisions. On the other hand, Kamala is new to the system, which means she is coming in with fresh ideas, such as cutting down the tax rate and meeting the needs of the middle class, who have been struggling due to tax and inflation. She has already gained traction in that regard.

I like Trump simply because of his relentless charisma and fearless approach to dealing with issues, especially when handling national matters. While Kamala may have a vision for the people and is not just playing political games, Trump is a game changer himself.

Acuty Guitarz from Nigeria

In my opinion, I believe Donald Trump will win the election. I fully support Trump, and my reason is that he's very courageous and doesn't fear anyone; he rules without fear or favor.

Prince Ifeanyi Nwosu from Nigeria

Well, the issues surrounding the American election do not warrant doubt when it comes to Trump and Harris. Firstly, assuming the American Electoral Commission is free from cunning acts and tribalism, Trump is already ahead without influence from corrupt countries like Nigeria, which might support Harris against Biafra’s actualisation. I suspect she may lean towards Muslim interests.

Secondly, once a teacher, always a teacher; a soldier is always a soldier. Therefore, if one is good at heart, he or she remains so. Trump, whom I have heard a little about, tried during his first term. Based on the analysis of his achievements, he shouldn't have been re-elected; instead, he received a vote of confidence to continue due to his repeated lamentations about Biafra issues. He was robbed of his election results, and I think this time around, he needs to be careful that the past does not repeat itself.

Influentially, Trump has been a president who did not complete his term, so he should be allowed to finish it according to the American Constitution. Trump has the charisma and power to manipulate and affect the affairs of the country, elevating it to unimaginable heights. To whom the cap fits should be allowed to wear it; Trump has what it takes to lead the country.

Regarding economic initiatives and management, while it’s true that women often possess wisdom and skills in various areas, including household management, this public issue requires broad wisdom and leadership capabilities. Trump has qualities that may help him excel in this area. This discussion isn’t about gender; it’s about sincerity and competence in addressing economic challenges.

In terms of tourism, Trump must have made great strides during his first term; an old dancer never forgets how to dance. Trump possesses the charisma and vigor to propel the country positively. Consider the comparison between Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and their successors and how they have handled the legacies left behind. What have they provided for their successors? Trump remains the best candidate among the two, with no challenges.

Sujoy Pal from India

Trump has a good friendship with our Prime Minister, Modiji. I am Sujoy from West Bengal, India. I am a teacher at a higher secondary school under the government of West Bengal. I support Donald Trump in the U.S. election because he has a good relationship not only with our Prime Minister but also with many Indians. He wants what is good for our country.

Harris and Trump

In the end, the choice is about which candidate’s vision best matches what Americans want for the country’s future. Both Trump and Harris offer different paths, based on their own ideas and priorities. By voting, Americans are deciding the country’s direction for years ahead. Let this election show the importance of making thoughtful choices, staying united, and focusing on what’s best for everyone. May the leader who is chosen bring progress, safety, and prosperity to all Americans.

Called to Serve: HRM (Hon) Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri Reflects on His Humanitarian Journey

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

HRM Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri

Join us in celebrating the extraordinary life of HRM (Hon) Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri as he marks his Sapphire Birthday Anniversary. A visionary leader, humanitarian, and advocate for justice, he has dedicated his life to uplifting vulnerable communities and empowering women and youth across Nigeria. His passion for positive change, reflected through his numerous accomplishments, shines brightly today as he reflects on his incredible journey.

Happy Birthday, HRM Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri! How are you feeling as you celebrate this special day?

I am so delighted and grateful to Almighty God for His infinite mercies, grace, and love upon my life. Above all, I feel immensely happy to be alive to witness this day as I celebrate my Sapphire Birthday Anniversary in my Emerald season.

As you reflect on the past year, what are some of the key achievements you are most proud of?

Well, as a Humanitarian Servant Leader, Entrepreneur, Consultant, and Human Rights Activist/Defender and Advocate, I have positively impacted the lives of thousands, including persons with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable groups. Additionally, I have established and registered around ten functional businesses, including:

i. Royal Ambassadors Charity Home (RACH)
ii. Royal Ambassadors Unique Services Ltd (RAUSL)
iii. Royal Ambassadors Entertainment & Modeling Agency (RAEME)
iv. Royal Ambassadors Security Services Ltd (RASSL)
v. Royal Friends Rights Advocacy, Development and Empowerment Foundation (RFRADEF)
vi. Royal Ambassadors Family Enlightenment Foundation (RAFEF)
vii. Royal Ambassadors Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd (RAMPCSL)
viii. Green Revolution Farmers Feed the Nation Foundation (GRFFNF)
ix. Green Revolution Food Bank Ltd (GRFBL)
x. Royal Ambassadors Global Media Ltd (RAGML)

What drives your passion for humanitarian work, and how has it evolved over the years?

I believe I was called to humanitarian work from birth, driven by a desire to help humanity by being a voice and defender for the voiceless and helpless. In fact, the Lord Almighty has been the force behind my achievements, and all glory and honor go to Him.

Can you share a memorable experience from your work with the Royal Ambassadors Charity Home that stands out to you?

Absolutely! My relationship with persons with hearing impairments, visual impairments, physical challenges, orphans, and widows has been incredibly rewarding. Their cries and challenges touch my heart deeply. I particularly cherish my moments with Amb. Rita Ofili and Amb. Ani Chiamaka Modester, who are both wheelchair users, and Barr. Constance Okosun, who is visually impaired, along with Barr. Ngerem-Destiny Miracle, who is physically challenged. Being around them makes me feel fulfilled, knowing that I am serving and assisting them on this earth.

In your opinion, what are the most urgent human rights challenges currently facing Nigeria?

This is a global issue, but in Nigeria, it is particularly the incessant harassment, intimidation, and victimization of citizens by security agencies, as well as unlawful arrests and the prolonged detention of innocent people. Widows are also often mistreated by their late husbands' relatives, which requires constant advocacy for their rights. A law should be established to defend them in this country.

What initiatives have you implemented to empower women and youth in your community?

I have been at the forefront of empowering women and youths in Nigeria. For my birthday, I turned my Birthday Bash into a Job Employment Bonanza, where 72 women and youths across the 36 states of Nigeria, including the FCT Abuja, were given the opportunity to be employed in the companies and NGOs I founded. In my local government area and community, I have empowered over 10 women and youths to secure meaningful employment.

With your extensive experience in media, what changes do you hope to see in the industry in the coming years?

My desire is to see the media take on the responsibility of delivering unbiased news reports and publications, setting a standard for other media houses to follow.

What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs celebrating their birthdays this month?

My advice to young entrepreneurs is to always look to God, who is the author and finisher of our faith. The power to create wealth comes from Him. When God leads you to undertake any venture, He will go before you, providing everything necessary to make it successful.

As a marriage counselor, what is the most important piece of advice you offer to couples?

My advice to singles is to marry the bone of your bone and the flesh of your flesh because, until you get married, you may not fully realize the favor God has in store for you. For couples already married, faithfulness, dedication, and commitment to your marriage are essential. Women, in particular, are the builders of the home and the best managers any man can have in life.

What steps are you taking to promote sustainable agriculture and food security in Nigeria?

As an agriculturist and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees/Director General of the Green Revolution Farmers Feed the Nation Foundation (GRFFNF), I am embarking on a tour across the 36 states of Nigeria, including the FCT Abuja. We aim to enlighten and sensitize women and youths on the importance of agricultural farming for sustainability and food security. During our upcoming program from 5th-8th December 2024, tagged "The Royal Gathering," we will launch an Agricultural Farming Project called "Operation Feed the Nation."

On this birthday, how would you like your legacy to be remembered in your community and beyond?

My utmost desire is that everyone around me experiences joy and happiness. I also want to live a fulfilled life by continuously putting smiles on people's faces.

Looking forward, what are your aspirations for the upcoming year, both personally and professionally?

Wow, I love this question. My aspiration for the upcoming year is to leave a legacy as a statesman who genuinely cares for women and youths. I hope to see a better Nigeria where the children of today and tomorrow will not suffer the challenges we face. Most importantly, I want women and youths to identify their God-given gifts, talents, and potentials and maximize these opportunities for profitable businesses, thereby reducing crime and criminality to the barest minimum in Nigeria.

As HRM Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri celebrates his special day, his unwavering commitment to humanity, social justice, and community empowerment remains a shining example for all. His visionary approach continues to touch countless lives, and his aspirations for a better Nigeria offer hope for the future. We wish him many more years of fulfillment, joy, and success in his impactful journey!

Wishing HRM (Hon) Amb. King Jonathan David Okwudiri a wonderful Sapphire Birthday filled with joy and blessings. May this special day, 25th October 2024, mark the beginning of another year of impactful service and accomplishments. Happy Birthday!

Turning Ideas into Reality: Opara Ujunwa Anthonet’s Journey as CEO of Gabby’s Shoe Making

By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Opara Ujunwa Anthonet, CEO of Gabby’s Shoe Making, began her journey into shoemaking with a deep love for creativity and the joy of transforming ideas into stylish, functional footwear.  Although she is a graduate, her passion for the craft led her to pursue shoemaking without formal training in the field. Through self-study, online courses, and the strong support of her family, Gabby has worked tirelessly to turn her vision into reality, aiming to build a shoe brand that stands out both in Nigeria and globally.

Can you share the moment or inspiration that first sparked your interest in shoemaking?

My interest in shoemaking was sparked by my deep love for creativity and the joy of transforming ideas into reality. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the art of crafting something unique. Shoemaking allows me to express that creativity in a tangible way. There’s something magical about turning raw materials into something functional and stylish. The idea that I can create something from scratch, and make it different from what everyone else is doing, is what drives me every day.

What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an apprentice in the shoemaking industry?

One of the most significant challenges I’ve encountered as an apprentice is the lack of proper mentorship. Without someone guiding me step by step, it often feels like I’m navigating in the dark, especially in the early stages. However, I’ve learned to rely on my passion, resilience, and my faith in God to overcome these obstacles. I believe that with determination, I can still excel even in the face of adversity. Every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth, and it’s helped me become more resourceful and innovative in my learning.

How did you begin learning the art of making shoes, especially without direct formal training from your boss?

I owe a lot to God for granting me the wisdom and strength to pursue shoemaking. Even though I didn’t receive formal training from my boss, my passion and love for the craft pushed me to learn independently. I would observe others, watch videos, and try out new techniques on my own. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve always believed that if you are truly committed to something, you will find ways to learn and grow. My self-discipline and determination have allowed me to pick up the skills faster than I expected.

How have online courses and self-study influenced your growth as a shoemaker, and what challenges have you faced while learning independently?

The decision to take online courses was crucial in my development as a shoemaker. Since I wasn’t getting formal training, I sought out knowledge through online platforms. These courses helped me understand the theoretical foundations of shoemaking, from design principles to material selection, and allowed me to practice techniques I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. However, studying independently came with its own set of challenges—there was no one to correct me when I made mistakes. But I persevered, determined to master my craft. The most rewarding part of this journey was realizing the difference between 'footwear' and 'shoe,' which opened my eyes to the subtleties of the industry.

Can you tell us about the support you’ve received from your family, especially your father, in helping you pursue your passion for shoemaking?

I am incredibly fortunate to have a supportive family, especially my father, Opara Milletus Ejike, fondly known as ‘ADIDAS.’ He has gone above and beyond to ensure I succeed in shoemaking, from providing me with the materials I need to promoting my work to his friends and acquaintances. My family has always believed in my dream, and their unwavering support has given me the confidence to push through the challenges. Knowing that they are behind me every step of the way makes me even more determined not to let them down.

What do you believe will set your future brand, Gabby’s Shoe Making, apart from other shoe brands in Nigeria?

My vision for Gabby’s Shoe Making is to create a brand that stands out through innovation, craftsmanship, and authenticity. I aspire to challenge not only local brands but also renowned international brands like those from Italy and England. What will set my brand apart is the attention to detail, quality materials, and the fusion of modern and traditional design elements that reflect both my creativity and cultural heritage. My dream is not just to create shoes but to build a brand that is synonymous with excellence and uniqueness.

What are your thoughts on the representation of women in male-dominated industries like shoemaking, and what advice would you give to women who want to enter similar fields?

Women have every right to excel in male-dominated industries, and shoemaking is no exception. I believe it’s essential for women to break through these barriers and show that they can succeed just as well—if not better—than their male counterparts. My advice to women is simple: don’t be discouraged by societal expectations or criticisms. If you’re passionate about something, pursue it with all your heart. The road may be tough, but your hard work and dedication will eventually speak for themselves. Stay focused, be confident, and remember that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.

Once you complete your apprenticeship and establish your brand, what are your next steps in terms of growth and expansion for Gabby’s Shoe Making?

After establishing Gabby’s Shoe Making as a recognized brand, my goal is to expand it into a full-scale company. I want to create job opportunities and employ skilled workers who share my vision for excellence. Beyond that, I plan to open a shoemaking school where aspiring shoemakers can learn the craft. It’s important to me to give back and provide others with the opportunities I didn’t have. Ultimately, I want Gabby’s Shoe Making to become a household name, not just in Nigeria but globally.

What has been your proudest moment so far in your journey as an apprentice shoemaker?

My proudest moment so far was when I successfully produced my own shoes just two months into my apprenticeship. That moment marked the beginning of my confidence in my abilities. What made it even more special was seeing my family and others proudly wearing my creations. Knowing that people are walking around in shoes I made with my own hands fills me with a deep sense of accomplishment.

Looking ahead, where do you see yourself and Gabby’s Shoe Making in the next five to ten years? What’s your ultimate vision for the brand?

In the next five to ten years, I envision Gabby’s Shoe Making becoming a global brand, recognized for its craftsmanship, innovation, and unique designs. My ultimate goal is to make my brand one of the most respected in the world. I see my shoes being worn by people from all walks of life, from everyday consumers to celebrities and fashion icons. I want to build a legacy that will stand the test of time, where Gabby’s Shoe Making is synonymous with quality, style, and creativity.

Opara Ujunwa Anthonet’s dedication to shoemaking and her vision for Gabby’s Shoe Making showcase her commitment to success. As she continues to grow her brand, her goal is to create a globally recognized name known for innovation, quality, and creativity. With her family’s support and plans to teach others the craft, Opara's journey promises to inspire many and leave a lasting impact on the shoemaking industry.

Principals, Parents Condemn JSS Textbook on Abortion, Call for Review of Curriculum

A viral post on X, formerly known as Twitter, has sparked a debate over the content of a Junior Secondary School (JSS) Three science textbook, which discusses abortion methods, reasons, and family planning. The post by user Alex Onyia has drawn attention to the book, Classic Basic Science and Technology for Junior Secondary School Three, questioning its suitability for students.

On page 135 of the book, authored by M. Abdussalam, F.A. Ibekwe, D.E. Akintelure, and B.B. Akintelure, with the approval of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), details on abortion procedures, including Dilation and Curettage (D&C) and Dilation and Evacuation (D&E), are provided. Onyia described the content as harmful and inappropriate for young learners.

In response to the post, opinions among users on X were divided. Some expressed concern about exposing students to detailed abortion procedures, while others argued that it is important to educate teenagers on the implications of pregnancy and abortion.

A parent, Johnson @Carrotsuite, condemned the book's content, suggesting it promotes a permissive attitude toward abortion. However, another user, Ogwu Ikechukwu, countered that teenagers should be informed about the realities of pregnancy and abortion.

Several education stakeholders have also weighed in. The All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPPS) and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) have strongly criticized the book, asserting that it contains information not approved in the national curriculum. ANCOPPS National President, Musa Ibrahim, stated that principals have been directed to remove any such books from schools and work with the Ministry of Education to review the content.

Ibrahim emphasized the importance of teaching students about reproduction in a responsible and age-appropriate way, stressing that the material in question is not suitable for JSS students. He added that the book was not part of the prescribed curriculum, and steps were being taken to prevent its circulation.

Haruna Danjuma, National Chairman of the PTA, called the book "unacceptable" and vowed to escalate the issue to the National Council and the Minister of Education for further action.

Similarly, Orji Emmanuel, National President of the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED), urged a review of all educational materials to ensure they align with age-appropriate standards. Emmanuel called for greater oversight by the NERDC and relevant agencies to safeguard the quality and appropriateness of educational resources.

While the need for comprehensive sex education is recognized by some stakeholders, they argue that content must be delivered in a manner suitable for the age group. Yomi Otubela, National President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, acknowledged the importance of teaching reproductive health but raised concerns about the explicit nature of the content in this book.

Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press for the Federal Ministry of Education, clarified that any textbook containing such content would not have been approved by NERDC. She pointed out that many textbooks in circulation falsely claim NERDC approval, and an investigation would be conducted to confirm the book’s legitimacy.

The controversy has highlighted the ongoing challenges in ensuring that educational materials are appropriate and aligned with the approved curriculum, as well as the need for careful consideration of how sensitive topics such as abortion are addressed in schools.

Wonders in Chosen Ministries are Authentic, Says Lazarus Mouka

General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, Lazarus Mouka

The General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, Lazarus Mouka, has reaffirmed the authenticity of the wonders witnessed in the church, stating that they have become a defining feature of the ministry. Speaking at the close of a two-day revival held at the church's headquarters in Ijesha, Lagos, Mouka emphasized that despite external distractions, the miraculous works of God will continue to be evident in the church.

The event, themed "Wonderful Move of God as of Old," featured sessions focused on revival, healing, and deliverance. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the revival was aimed at rekindling the faith and hope of the congregation.

Mouka highlighted how God continues to work through seemingly ordinary things, surprising those who do not fully understand His ways. "Just as in the past, God continues to perform wonders in Chosen, to the amazement of many who do not grasp how He uses the simple to demonstrate the profound," he said.

He urged believers not to be discouraged by criticism or persecution from the outside world but to grow stronger in their faith. Mouka reminded the congregation that God remains unchanging and mysterious to those who do not believe, and he encouraged them to remain steadfast in their spiritual journey.

The General Overseer also led prayers for the unity of the nation and called on its leaders to seek divine wisdom in guiding the country.

Governor Eno Clarifies Daughter’s Role in Coordinating First Lady’s Office

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has addressed recent reports concerning his daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, coordinating the Office of the First Lady following the death of his wife, Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, on September 26, 2024.

Speaking during a condolence visit from Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Eno clarified that his daughter’s role is not a political appointment but a continuation of her work as the Special Assistant to her late mother. He explained that Mrs. Obareki, having closely worked with her mother, is well-positioned to coordinate the office’s activities, particularly in overseeing the First Lady’s projects.

Governor Eno emphasized that First Ladies are not appointed but accompany the governor by virtue of their relationship. He stated that having his daughter coordinate the office would not only ensure continuity of the various women-focused initiatives, such as the "Golden Initiative For All," but also bring comfort to the family during their time of mourning.

"This decision is not political but a natural step given her experience, exposure, and familiarity with the office," Eno explained. He noted that her role would involve keeping the office’s programmes for women, the elderly, and the vulnerable running smoothly.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the late First Lady’s initiatives would not be abandoned. "As long as I am governor, those programmes will continue," he said, stressing that the choice of his daughter as coordinator was based on trust and proximity.

Governor Eno concluded by expressing his gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu and her delegation for their support during this difficult time.

NDLEA Arrests Canadian Woman for Importing Synthetic Cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport for importing synthetic cannabis known as ‘Canadian Loud.’ The arrest occurred on October 3, 2024, during the arrival of a KLM flight from Canada.

In a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, it was revealed that a joint search of Munju's luggage uncovered 74 parcels of the illicit substance, weighing a total of 35.20 kilograms, hidden in two of her three bags. The woman, a first-time visitor to Nigeria, admitted she had been recruited through an online platform and promised $10,000 CAD for successfully delivering the drugs in Lagos. She stated she needed the money to fund her ongoing master's degree studies in Canada.

In a separate operation, the NDLEA also seized over 13 million pills of various opioids and 338,253 bottles of codeine-based syrup at the Port Harcourt Ports Onne, Rivers State, on October 2 and 3, 2024. These shipments, originating from India, were intercepted during a joint cargo inspection with the Nigerian Customs and other agencies.

Further drug-related arrests were made at Lagos' Tincan Seaport on October 3, when 100 parcels of Canadian Loud, weighing 50kg, were found concealed in a container with imported vehicles. The illicit drugs were traced to a warehouse in Ikorodu, where a suspect, Abubakar Shuaibu Ibrahim, was taken into custody.

Additionally, NDLEA officers in Taraba State intercepted a bus traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo, recovering 80 blocks of cannabis weighing 38kg hidden in bags of garri. Two suspects, Pako Thomas and Emmanuel Anyigor, were arrested in connection with this discovery. Another suspect, Chibuzor Okafor, was arrested on October 2 in Wukari, Taraba, with cannabis concealed in a similar manner.

In Lagos, on October 4, NDLEA officers arrested a woman, Bolanle Ajenifuja, in possession of 700 liters of a mixture of local chapman and illicit drugs, known as "skuchies." Three additional suspects were also apprehended.

On the same day, NDLEA operatives destroyed nearly 10,000 kilograms of cannabis found on a farm spanning over three hectares in a boundary community between Edo and Ondo states. 48 kilograms of processed cannabis were recovered from the farm, according to Babafemi's statement.

These operations highlight the ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and the illicit drug trade in Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye’s Apology Sparks Renewed Debate on Tithing

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has issued an apology following a statement he made linking tithing to salvation. The apology came after a video of his sermon surfaced online, where he suggested that paying tithes was essential for entering heaven.

The sermon triggered widespread criticism, with many accusing the respected cleric of placing financial contributions above spiritual matters. Among those opposed to the message is Pastor Abel Damina of Power City International Ministry, who has consistently preached against the payment of tithes. Damina emphasized that there is no record in the Bible of Jesus paying or receiving tithes, nor did the early church demand them.

Responding to the backlash, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged that his statement was incorrect and lacked biblical support. He clarified during RCCG's National Youth Convention that salvation is based on following peace and holiness, as taught in Scripture, rather than financial contributions to the church. "I apologise for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ That’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,’" Adeboye explained. He also noted that paying 10 percent as tithe is meant for beginners in the faith.

Several Christian leaders praised Adeboye’s humility in apologizing. Dr. Samson Ayokunle, former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), described the apology as a reflection of the pastor’s humility and character. Similarly, Archbishop Osazee Williams lauded Adeboye's ability to acknowledge a mistake, noting that few leaders are willing to admit such errors publicly.

However, not all reactions were supportive of Adeboye's stance. Rev. Oyewale Oyeniyi, President of the Baptist Church in Ogun State, argued that refusing to pay tithes constitutes disobedience to God, which, in his view, could prevent one from entering heaven. He maintained that while the Bible may not explicitly state that non-tithers will go to hell, failing to follow God’s command on tithing is a form of disobedience that could have eternal consequences.

The apology has reignited debates on social media about the relevance of tithing in Christianity. While some view tithing as a biblical practice that encourages generosity, others criticize it as outdated and exploitative. Online personality Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, commended Adeboye for his apology and urged other pastors to follow suit, calling out those who have allegedly manipulated biblical teachings to fit personal narratives.

 By Nightengale Ben-Onyeukwu

Mr. Squad

In the dynamic world of music, new talents bring fresh ideas and sounds that captivate listeners. One such artist is Emmanuel Ernest Alaoma, known by his stage name, Mr. Squad. Hailing from Abia State, Nigeria, Emmanuel’s journey into music began in secondary school, where friendly competitions with friends sparked his passion. With a diverse style that encompasses Afrobeat, rap, highlife, and R&B, he shares heartfelt stories of love and life in his lyrics. In this interview, we explore Emmanuel’s creative process, musical influences, and aspirations as he navigates the challenges of the music industry.

Can you start by telling us about yourself, your stage name, and how you got into music?
My name is Emmanuel Ernest Alaoma. I was born on June 28, 1997, in Abia State. My stage name is Mr. Squad. I began making music in secondary school by competing with my friends in rhyme battles. I consistently outperformed them, which inspired me to formalize my passion for music.

What’s your educational background? Did you study music or a related field?
I studied English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (Alvan Campus). However, my real education in music has come from extensive experience in the industry.

What genre of music do you create, and what draws you to that specific style?
I create Afrobeat, rap, highlife, and R&B. These genres resonate with me because they bring me peace and allow me to express myself effectively. You could say it’s my niche.

What inspires your songwriting, and what themes do you often explore in your lyrics?
My songs are inspired by love and life experiences, often revolving around themes of romance, the beauty of a woman, and social issues. In my five completed tracks, these themes come to life.

Can you share a bit about your creative process when it comes to writing and producing music?
Firstly, I find a compelling reason to sing. I write and carefully refine my lyrics before contacting my producer for a beat that complements them. Then, we proceed to the recording session.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
Phyno, P-Square, Chike, and Flavour have been pivotal influences in my music. Phyno inspires my rap, Flavour guides my highlife tracks, and P-Square influences my love songs and other themes.

Are you currently working on any music projects, such as an album or single? If so, can you tell us about it?
I have many songs in the pipeline, but right now, funding is an issue. I'm trying to make ends meet so I can release my song titled “SHOW ME NOW,” inspired by the untimely death of Mohbad.

How do you balance the creative and business aspects of being a musician, and what advice would you give to emerging artists?
Music can be lucrative, but to earn money, you must invest. It’s essential for artists to learn to manage certain aspects of their craft, like creating their own music artwork and recordings, while also maintaining a strong social media presence. I strive to make quality music that helps me stand out, especially in highlife, which I love due to artists like Chike and Flavour.

Where would you like to see yourself in the next five to ten years? Are there any specific goals or milestones you’re working towards?
In the next five years, I aspire to be a successful musician. Although I’m currently outside Nigeria, I am diligently working towards that goal.

Outside of music, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Are you in a relationship or focused on your career right now?
In my free time, I enjoy videography and graphic design. These pursuits align with my creativity and help me enhance my music projects. I’m currently single and focused on my career.

Conclusion
As Mr. Squad continues to forge his path in the music industry, his dedication and passion shine through in every song. With a solid foundation and a clear vision for success, he is poised to make a significant impact on the Nigerian music scene. His journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring artists, and we eagerly await more from him as he shares his unique voice with the world.
